How do I start?

To start a food business there are a few things you need to do. The City of Melbourne provide an informative website for budding food entrepreneurs - click here for more information. This includes putting together a Food Safety Plan and nominating a Food Safety Supervisor when registering with the City of Melbourne.

If you intend to trial your business first we do ask that you initially obtain your Food Handling certification as a minimum and that you register with the City of Melbourne within the month so that you are ultimately responsible for the food that you prepare and sell.

Before reserving kitchen time with us you should:

  1. Contact us to confirm availability for your required schedule.
  2. Arrange an inspection time to ensure our facility meets your requirement.
  3. Complete and sign a copy of the Rental Agreement form provided by us including:
    • Provide certification of nominated Food Safety Supervisor
    • Payment of security deposit
  4. If you are selling to the public you should contact City of Melbourne to discuss requirement to register your food business.
  5. Reserve your time in the kitchen!

Copies of these documents can be mailed to us at 661 Spencer Street, West Melbourne, Victoria 3003, handed to us on the day of your first booking, or email to info@cookingspace.com.au prior to your first reservation.

Please note, if you are registering your business with the City of Melbourne, it will require an onsite inspection with one of their Health Officer to complete your registration. We require payment of a booking and security deposit before this can be arranged.

If you are unsure as to what requirements your business needs to operate or have questions regarding the list above, please contact us and we can assist you.
